Recently I saw a useful tool in a book called, Mojo: How to Get It, How to Keep It, How to Get It Back if You Lose It. The book is by Marshall Goldsmith, a renowned executive coach, and in it he wrote about a useful, simple tool called The Daily Questions, which can also be found at his website: http://www.mojothebook.com/about-mojo-book/.
The questions are self developed, and can be items such as, "How happy was I today (1-10)?" How many minutes did I spend writing?" Or, "How many minutes did I spend watching TV?" He recommends having a friend ask you the questions and then score them on a spreadsheet. You return the favor, and each week you both review the scores.
Used often The Daily Questions become a valuable system to increase awareness and to measure your progress towards the things you really want to accomplish in life, whether it's to make more pleasant comments to your partner, do more push ups,or write the next killer app. It's not the be all and end all, but it can definitely help.
